Committed to Causes
You've just cast a vote for the worry that’s most important to you - whether it was a financial concern, personal health and fitness, hunger, natural disasters or illnesses. As part of our campaign, the Northwestern Mutual Foundation has designated a $1 million to grant to four organizations to combat these worries. At the end of this campaign, we will share the results and announce the grant awards based on the votes we receive.
We are pleased to partner with nonprofits that will benefit from your support at www.letyourworriesgo.com. Along with our partners, the four areas we are supporting are:
ILLNESS - Susan G. Komen for the Cure, whose mission is to save lives and end breast cancer forever through research, access to quality care and personal empowerment. www.cms.komen.org
NATURAL DISASTERS - Habitat for Humanity, which hopes to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness and make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Our support will be designated for the New Orleans area. www.habitat-NOLA.org
HUNGER - Feeding America, working to feed America's hungry through its network of food banks and engage others in the fight to end hunger. www.feedingamerica.org
HEALTH & FITNESS - YMCA, building healthy spirits, minds and bodies for all. www.ymca.net |
A Tradition of Sharing
Northwestern Mutual’s philosophy of doing the right thing is evident in our strong tradition of giving back and sharing with others for more than 150 years. We believe in painting brighter futures in communities across the country.
Support for the community comes in many forms, through the generous sharing of time, treasure and talent. We give time and talent through our home office employees and Northwestern Mutual Financial Network Representatives, who donated more than 50,000 hours of volunteer time last year. Our treasure is shared in the form of financial support for nonprofit organizations through the Northwestern Mutual Foundation. Over the last five years, the Foundation has given more than $70 million, and consistently ranks as the top corporate charitable giver in the state of Wisconsin.
Approximately 50% of the Foundation’s giving is accomplished through a limited number of national programs, including the Matching Gifts program and our underwriting of National Public Radio. The Foundation does not have an open national grant program.
The remainder is dedicated to the Greater Milwaukee area through an open grant program, funding in the focus areas of Education, Health & Human Services, and Arts & Culture. Unfortunately, the Foundation cannot accept unsolicited grant requests.
